Performing Music Live

Live music can be a very effective way to engage communities and bring them together. It serves as an extremely valuable tool for social cohesion. This unit aims to develop musicianship and interpersonal skills to engage an audience through music creatively.

Musicianship Skills:

    • Appropriate knowledge of the repertoire

    • Understanding the nature of the performance

    • Understanding of the equipment required

    • Strategies for overcoming nerves

    • Ability to safely and efficiently set up

    • How to soundcheck

    • Working efficiently and effectively with others

    • Understanding audience expectation

    • Engaging an audience

    • Understanding of relevant stylistic and genre characteristics

    • Understanding musical structures and arrangements

    • Appropriate Instrumental/vocal techniques

    • Assessment of musical development/progress

    • The means to develop, identify and respond to musical/visual cues

    • Use of both verbal and non-verbal communication

    • The capacity to constructively peer review the work of others

    • The ability to give and respond to musical direction

    • Understanding the physiological impact of performing with an instrument/voice

    • The ability to safely and efficiently set up personal equipment
